My Salinger Year by Joanna Rakoff

inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.75

The second half of the book was amazing, it felt really honest and it was definitely inspiring for me. It started to get really interesting for me when Joanna finally read Salinger's books and she managed to overcome her negative assumptions about Salinger's novels. I am a fan of Salinger, but I was releived that this book is about  praising him all the time, still, it was great to see how Joanna becomes a fan of the author as well. But I think Joanna herself is a complex and interesting character on her own, so I dodn't mind that Salinger was kind of lingering in the back the whole time and did not "steal the show".  It was also interesting to see how a literary agency works and I found it disappointing at first that everything revolves around profit, but after all, reading new writers' stories must be an exciting job to have, even if you wouldn't want to do it in your whole life.
