This book was difficult to read because of the violence, abuse, rape and abortion that are covered. It was also outside of my normal comfort zone of books I usually read.
I appreciated how Emilia used storytelling from three women’s perspectives to show the struggles of women throughout the decades.
Despite struggling with the graphic descriptions, I believed it helped me better experience the plight of women who lived differently from what society expected. I also thought Emilia did a good job of showing the strength women possess when they do what’s right for them.

Graphic: Domestic abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Abortion
Moderate: Death
