Counting on a Countess by Eva Leigh

4.0

Eva Leigh is back with another darling tale of daring ladies and their dashing loves. This time, we meet Tamryn, a lady from Cornwall leading a smuggling ring to provide for the welfare of her town, and Kit, a recently appointed lord with a soldier's history and burdens in search of distraction from his demons.

I'm giving this book a four star rating because of my personal prejudice against stories that have the characters fall in love in a matter of days/weeks. I find that unrealistic, but that could just be me. Also, the ending was a bit anticlimactic.

Otherwise, Leigh is once again keeping me in stitches and flipping pages so fast I need to keep a fire alarm right above my reading chair. She is a master at endlessly throwing barriers in the way of her characters, upping the stakes, and pitting two hearts against each other in the most deliciously painful manner. Her lush writing is a treat in a world made rough by conflict; the perfect getaway!
