Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos by Lucy Knisley
5.0
This is quite frankly the most amazing, heartfelt and beautiful graphic novel I've ever read. I felt myself tearing up almost every 10 pages and that is not at all exaggerating. Lucy Knisley's writing and cartooning has always appealed to me - her descriptions of food are delectable and her light-hearted but sincere approach has always been identifiable and easy to connect to. But this time, she has really just blown me away. Reading through her miscarriage and nightmare-ish pregnancy opened my eyes to an experience that I will never endure, but now have a better understanding and empathy towards. Her strength and perseverance, and expressed through her drawings, the strength and perseverance of mothers everywhere was both emotional and awe-inspiring. I can't even begin to express the impact this book has had on me...
Lucy Knisley has been and will continue to be one of the greats and one of my favourite cartoonist - and I will undoubtedly continue to follow her for the rest of her cartooning career.
