Frida Kahlo: An Illustrated Life by María Hesse

4.0

I think this is a very interesting book. Why do we love Frida so much? Here she is again, reinterpreted in words and pictures. The illustrations of Maria Hesse bring a childlike quality to Kahlo’s works. The hardness is removed, replaced with a wry smile. Yet all the mean parts of Kahlo’s life are still represented (the accident, the infidelities). It’s beautiful and original, a homage and something new, all blended into one.
