They Hate Each Other
by Amanda Woody
So. Damn. Cute. I’ll start by saying I had lower expectations given that this is a YA book, but boy was I wrong. I was blown away by how deep and emotional this book gets. It explores some heavy issues, but they are handled very well. I truly felt close to Jonah and Dylan—I cried when they cried, shared their anxious moments, and felt butterflies when they swooned. They are such beautifully written characters, and I’m sad their story is over.
Although the reason for their fake dating was pretty ridiculous (and the friends were annoying with their teasing and pushing), their initial dislike for one another was believable, and the ‘break-up’ in the third act was surprisingly not overly contrived - unlike some other books I’ve read. I really enjoyed this one, so many sweet moments and was well worth the many tears I shed.
