Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

This is the second book by Rainbow that I read, and now it’s the second book I review for Rainbow’s Month of Books!

Eleanor is the new girl in school and Park, well, he’s one of the popular kids, but not really. He’s kind of the in between. On Eleanor’s first day of school, she’s faced with the dilemma of where to sit on the bus. No one wants the new kid to sit by them, especially since the new kid dresses in men’s clothing, is red haired, and is, well, fat. Park definitely doesn’t want her to sit in the seat besides him. As fate would have it, she does.
I won’t say anything else that happens, because it would ruin the magicalness of the story between these two.

And it’s such a sweet, enchanting love story.

One thing that I love about Rainbow’s characters is how different they are from each other and yet how similar they are. How real and human they are.

Park and Eleanor come from completely different backgrounds and are completely different from each other, and yet, the love between them-although nonexistent at first-is a love that’s strong enough to deal with all those differences. As we learn more about Eleanor and her life, we learn about Park in comparison.

Film rights have been bought for this film and I cannot wait to see it. I have high hopes for this to make a great movie.
