I reread this book several times as a tween, and was fascinated by it. I basically read it cover to cover, so still very interesting to me, and  Gabrelle/ Sister Luke is a compelling character, very intelligent, very passionate about the things she cares about. I had thought I remembered some romance (probably from the Audrey Hepburn movie) but not really in the book, it’s about her increasing inability to remain silent and detached, like a good nun  as the Nazis invade and occupy Belgium. I actually would have been interested in what happened to Gabrielle after she left the the church and re-entered the real world, but I don’t think that book got written!
