This just didn't work for me. Very slow going, and I felt too distanced from the historical subject for it to move me or make as much of an impact. I realize it's just as if not more about memorialization and the memorializers as it is about the horrors of the war. Reminded me a lot of Pedro Paramo in the back half — thinking I might not be that into magical realism.
