Witch's Reign by Shannon Mayer

adventurous mysterious fast-paced

3.5

First I'd just like to say that the intro was pure gold. Talk about an attention grabber. From there it gets a little muddled. The world building was lacking and even confusing at times. Lots of questions remain in regards to that. I liked the characters but found that Lila was a bit on the obnoxious side.
The thing is is that I remember reading this book at one point but for some reason didn't have a review anywhere on it (Goodreads, Amazon, Storygraph) so when I started this I thought I was having a massive case of deja vu. Something else I remember is quiting the series halfway through because the books became boring and monotonous.
There are a lot of issues that don't add up like the rare plastic thing, is it earth or not?, whoever Merlin is, why is it dystopian?, even our MCs description changes throughout the book like the author forgot what she looked like.
There's a lot of potential here and I really enjoyed most of the story as silly as it could be. I think the concept is great but a little more thought needs to be done to execute it well.
