The Lie by Karla Sorensen

5.0

Part of this book was like watching a slow-motion trainwreck. It's called The Lie, after all, and we get that pie relatively early, and as the relationship between them continues to grow in a surprisingly beautiful way, the weight of that lie grows and grows and we know it is going to hit them like a wrecking ball. It hurts to watch, but we can't look away.

These are two great characters. And while Dominic is unquestionably flawed, his POV chapters are done perfectly because we can see his big heart, and that he doesn't want to be this angry person but has no ability to regulate his temper.

Faith sees his big heart too, but this book gets 5 stars because hallelujah for a FMC who sees the heart of the flawed man, and loves him while knowing he loves her, but says she deserves better. That he has to fix himself because she respects herself too much to allow herself to be treated that way, despite how much she loves him. Faith is wonderful here, and inspiring. She can love him, help him, without letting herself be a doormat. She doesn't need him to be perfect, but she requires him to be someone she can trust with her heart.

And in the end, the two of them are perfect for each other. She inspires him to embrace the better version of himself, and he inspires her to let go a little, take joy from surprises.
