The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory
2.0

So this book has managed to score only a 2 star when it's predecessor managed to get a 4, so part of me is actually questioning whether it was written by the same author, and why is it a Reese Witherspoon book club pick? To be honest I was swithering on whether to give it a 2 or 3, and perhaps if it had not been a follow up book it might have sneaked the extra star, or perhaps I would not have finished it at all, but because I enjoyed the first one it's hard not to compare them.

Starting with the characters; I really liked Carlos in the first book, he was a solid supporting character who seemed wiser and up for kicking the main character up the backside when he is being an a***. But as a main character on his own, I just didn't completely get it. That being said, he was still a fair sight better than Nik who I just could not get on with at all.

My other issue is that the book just felt a bit too formulaic and structured, and the ending was way way way too sudden. The previous book included a lot more personal growth and I felt a bit closer to the characters who I understood and related too far more. Like many sequels I started this with the hope of seeing Drew and Alexa, and although there were some scenes, they were few and far between. I am still planning to read the next book (particularly if this was a fluke) and I do have higher hopes given that this book actually takes place during the wedding itself, so even if I don't like the characters/story, then at least I should be able to see Drew and Alexa get married.
