The book is about chemistry and specifically dives deep into how humans found out about the laws of chemistry.
I loved that the author integrated fun facts and stories about chemistry. The explanation was rather clear cut and I enjoyed the short appendixes that went along with the book. I felt that the author managed to accomplish what he was trying to do which is to ignite the interests of others in chemistry. The way he told the story of Carl Scheele was also brilliant, which now I hope to remember this scientist down the road.
I had expectations for the book to talk more about the interesting things each elements can do. While I did not expect that they would go so deep into the orbital loops for electrons and how an atom works, I was not particularly interested in it because I felt that the knowledge is not particularly useful too.
This book gives interesting backstories to real life objects and makes a very fun learning book, reminding me of The Book of Numbers: From Zero to Infinity
The only reason why I wouldn't give it anymore than 3 or 3.5 stars is because I don't see myself recommending this book to others.
