Emma by Jane Austen

  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

Really enjoyed this one - yes it was quite predictable but the plot is layered enough for that not to be an issue and to be at least somewhat intentional.

It probably seemed to develop a lot faster to me than most since I burned through it pretty quickly, but it’s hard to read in just a few days so it might seem slow.

All in all, a much-needed lovable, happy-ending Austen read. I only took a quarter star away because
Knightley talking about basically falling in love with child Emma while he was fully an adult just made me soo uncomfy 😭
but ofc you expect some amount of that — along with the classism I also wasn’t a fan of — in books from that period.
