Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie
2.0
Found this one a bit of a chore unfortunately!
I loved the fairytale presentation and a lot of the language is very witty and enjoyable, but there was something missing at the heart of this which left me feeling cold. I think one of the problems I had was that, although this was written for a 12 year old, I can't imagine anyone that age liking it? The adventure is a bit tepid and I think the way it was written felt quite impersonal and lacked joy.
Maybe I was in the wrong frame of mind for this, but I just got very little from it and the humour in it all didn't really mesh with me.
Perhaps one to revisit in the future!
