Matt Chase is the last Chase brother still standing, er, single. He's a firefighter in a small town and has been lucky enough to grow up with a family loves him in a town that actually has his ancestor's names on buildings. Nothing like Tate Murphy who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and had to work to protect her younger brothers and sisters. She's short and plump-y, nothing like the women Matt usually dates. So when he finally notices her, not everyone is excited. Even Tate can't quite believe that Matt is wanting to be with her.
I liked the characterization of these characters and how hard they had to work to get to know each other. That Matt really had to learn more about how Tate grew up. Some of it was fairly fantastical but overall a good story.
