I really enjoyed this informative account of literary and artistic friendship. The lost world of written correspondence touched and inspired me. Will our online communities have a chance to be part of biographies in fifty years? Or will they simply vanish? I did find myself thinking about some stuff not accounted for in the narrative that I wished had been addressed—religion, particularly. We’re these artists atheists or believers? Did they break from their tradition or continue? What happened to Rilke’s wife and daughter— how did they support themselves? Why was not more said about how WWI affected the lives of Rilke and Rodin (this period felt glossed over)? But overall have really enjoyed this book and learned a lot!
