Enjoyable spicy retelling of the Little Mermaid.
There were some aspects I really enjoyed about this story. In no particular order: the sea witch, his friends (specifically their unique look otherwise they were underutilized), the scenes of Averill (mermaid learning about human life), and the disillusionment of the little mermaid.
It took some of the problems of the disney movie and improved (aka the prince and instalove), but also sorely missed opportunities across the book. The descriptions of the kingdoms were lackluster. Like it could have been two books if it were fleshed out more. The introduction of the sea witch's friends mostly to say triads are ok. Uhhh. Was there any friendship or are they only there cause he can help them fuck? The conclusion was crazy rushed and disappointing.
I also wish there were less similarities to the Disney version. Ariel = averill with red hair? Tarion and Triton.
