I loved this prequel BUT I missed the original characters a lot. This gives you all the info you need to realize what led to the flare and the maze trials. It was filled with great backstory for what set the stage for books 1-3. SO SO GOOD! I also loved the ending where it's confirmed who has tagged along with the group throughout the book (as if you couldn't tell who it was already.)
