A Study in Scarlet
by Arthur Conan Doyle
As a big fan of BBC's Sherlock Holmes, I wanted to give the original literature a try.
At first glance, it did not disappoint! The writing, a bit difficult for me as it's a tad outdated and I'm not a native English speaker, was nonetheless very well done. The narrative flowed easily and we got to see the famous meeting of Watson and Holmes. The case itself was good, though it took a little while to get into it. There was a big narrative switch about halfway through and though it merged at the end, it did make me put the book down for a bit. I loved BBC's Sherlock because of the banter between Sherlock and Watson and Sherlock's deduction more than the cases themselves, so when the book devoted a larger chunk to the characters from the case I got a bit bored here and there.
Overall, I still love the world of Sherlock Holmes and I'll give this a 3.5 rounded up.
