The Rebel Daughter by Miranda Malins

emotional hopeful informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

I loved Malins’s first book, The Puritan Princess, and I was really excited to read the second. Set during one of the most tumultuous and epic times in British history, it is brilliantly written and solidly researched. I immediately warmed to the narrator, Bridget Cromwell - she is a force to be reckoned with in this story as she carves her own path, an early feminist in a world ruled by men.

Despite once again including lots of political intrigue and historical fact, Biddy is a warm and relatable narrator which makes the book so readable. I particularly enjoyed the little nods and parallels to The Puritan Princess and how well the author has managed to portray two very different women who lived in very different times despite being from the same family. I hope to see much more from Malins in the future!
