not really sure how to categorize this one? it really did remind me of the joy luck club, but at the same time, it has a very distinct…taste? the language is superb and really made me feel all sorts of things through the way she uses the literal translation of chinese words and idioms instead of making them feel more "comfortable" for her english-reading audience. i think this book is a wonderful hybrid of literary prose and deeply personal memories, and i'm looking forward to reading more of her work.
