12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson

Jordan Peterson's "12 Rules for Life" is an informative read. It's a collection of short essays that focus on one key rule. He emphasizes the word "rule", stating that authority is crucial. I don't agree with this, but "rules" helped me remember his insights for everyday life, unlike another word such as "ideas" or "guidelines".

He offers practical wisdom, such as the art of active listening. I definitely agree with some of his ideas and find him inspirational.

However, his point development is flawed. He uses biblical references and frequently mentions "God"; he doesn't realise that people from all religions are reading this.

Moreover, he is misogynistic at times and adapts a patriarchal view, referring to "man" and prioritising certain rules for men. Rule 1 states that you should "stand up straight with your shoulders back", because the strongest men get "all the girls"? I can see why he is controversial.

I believe Peterson could have exercised a different, healthier approach to developing his essays. However, he does offer quality ideas and practical wisdom. Read this when you have a chance, and see for yourself what you gain from it.
