Into the Storm by Melanie Moreland

4.0

Well this was an interesting read.... 3.75 *'s.

WARNING: this novel contains descriptive retellings of domestic abuse and other severe violence.

I LOVED the first 75ish%. The story was so intriguing; I couldn't stop reading. I fell in love with both the hero and the heroine from the start. The hero is a reclusive author that now resides in the woods due to a brutal attack, for which he suffered a severe leg injury. The heroine is running from her VERY abusive husband during a horrible snow storm, ends up on the author's property, and loses control of her car and hits a tree. At first the hero hates that the heroine has disrupted his life, but he soon realizes that it's a blessing.

It had a Beauty & the Beast vibe which I loved. I'm not sure if that's what the author was going for, but that's the way the story presented itself to me (with some variations, of course). Both the characters have separate and HUGE things to overcome in this story which makes the plot an even more engaging read.

Once I got to the last fourth of book, however, I started losing interest. I felt like the dialogue and sex scenes became VERY cheesy. Maybe they were like that the entire book but I didn't notice them because I was engrossed in the story and characters? I'm not sure. On one hand I'm happy the author gave us readers more insight on the characters lives after most of the drama was over. On the other hand though, it was too drawn out. The ending, in my opinion, did not need to be as long as it was. I'm afraid that is the reason the dialogue and sex scenes got cheesy! The author didn't have anything else to say so it got awkward! I'm not sure....

All in all, good book! :)
