The Mitten
by Jan Brett
The Mitten is a tale about a young boy who drops one of his new mittens while outside one day and all of the animals that decide to use it to keep warm. This version is a retelling of a classic Ukrainian folktale paired with gorgeous pictures in muted tones that create a relaxed, cozy feeling for the readers. The tale itself is a little silly and deals with the personification of various forest animals. It deals with mathematical concepts of big/little, increasing size, and spatial awareness. This book would fit easily into winter, bear, and arctic animal thematic units.
