simultaneously an easy read (experience-wise, it was a page-turner, highly consumable, gripping), and a hard read (subject-wise—i kept having to pause and sit in the horrors and trials James went through). there’s not much i can say about it that hasn’t already been said, but as someone who grew up loving huck finn & tom sawyer, this novel is so brilliant and is so obviously imbued with care and craft.
