A Series of Unfortunate Events Box: The Complete Wreck by Lemony Snicket

5.0

A series of thirteen novels that follow the turbulent lives of the Baudelaire children as they are relentlessly pursued by Count Olaf, intent on stealing their inheritance after the children's parents are killed in a fire. The first eight books see the children placed in the care of hapless, but well-meaning (for the most part), custodians, who don't manage to avoid grisly fates. The latter half of the series follows the children's attempt to make sense of an increasingly disorganised world and manoeuvre within it. As the plot progresses, the children confront further mysteries surrounding their families and deep conspiracies involving a secret society known as V.F.D, or the Volunteer Fire Department. The final scene is in The End, when the children, washed up on a deserted island populated by survivors of shipwrecks who then leave at the helm of the mysterious Ishmael, also take their leave after reading a diary kept by their parents when the parents were washed up on the island.
