I was drawn to this book because the synopsis reminded me of where I’m from, where the whole town cares about a young football program, except in the book it’s hockey. At first, it was challenging to keep up with all of the different characters, but I grew to love how Backman weaves their stories together. The way a sport can bring people together and tear them apart is a relatable experience for me. Backman brings this experience to life for the reader and I would recommend this to anyone, although it is a difficult read with heavy topics.
