This book took a little while for me to feel invested in the characters, however, unlike a lot of Gothic Fiction the plot took turns which were creative enough i couldn't have predicted the entirety of the novel. By the second volume I found myself rooting for the main couples and appreciating the artful writing which conveyed so much without excess description.
