The Conspiracy Against the Human Race by Thomas Ligotti

challenging dark reflective slow-paced

2.0

The ideas presented in this book were very intriguing to me as an optimistic pessimist as the author would call me. This was dampened by how dense and repetitive the writing is.

The first part, "the nightmare of being" was the most interesting as it presented new ideas and arguments. The second and fourth parts ("who goes there" and "sick to death") were basically presenting new arguments to restate the ideas from "the nightmare of being". "Freaks of salvation" (third part) was new. It touched on religion but it was kind of uninteresting in my opinion. The fifth part: "The cult of grinning martyrs" was shorter and overall fine. The last part was very interesting as it analyzed the horror genre but by this point I was kind of sick of the writing style.

So overall 2 stars.
