Much as it pains me to admit it, I wasn't overly enamored with this one. By no means is it bad, it's just never particular engaging. The writing is pleasant enough but somehow detached; events occur at a fairly brisk pace, as though we're hurredly moving towards something but by the book's close we're little wiser. Certainly, when the references to titular Halos (Haloes?), the Flood and all things franchise-related work themselves into the larger mythology it seems a little more compelling but I guess when you set out to write three books you're under no obligation to hurry to any conclusion.
