I have been excited for Quan's book since he was introduced in THE KISS QUOTIENT. And he was even dreamier than I ever thought was possible. Hoang really delivered an emotionally mature and empathetic soul in this character. Real world humans just can't cut it anymore. I loved that Anna's journey was semi blended with autobiographical moments from Hoang's own life. There was a visceral rawness and reality to the emotion that spoke to me. It is a work of art. It is human and beautiful and perfect in it's imperfections. Even though it heavily focuses on Anna's autism diagnosis, depression, anxiety, and familial struggles this story manages to make Quan feel an equal part of the narrative. This is a love story, but a real one. Love can't fix your wrongs or instantly heal your wounds...but it can give you a companion to walk through the fire with. While I'm sure an emotional journey like this is not for everyone, I absolutely loved getting inside both Anna and Quan's minds.
