johnny92m 's review for:
It Gets Worse
by Shane Dawson
I was a little low on Shane’s last book because it felt more fluff than anything else, more ludicrous stories than anything delving close to who Shane is as a person. This book makes up for it 100%.
While the humor is still at times outraged and shocking, there feels like a real heart to the stories being told, a real person behind the facade that I don’t think could have existed in Shane’s previous work. That’s the power of growing up, of growing comfortable in yourself. Stories about his upbringing, his sexuality, his inner conflict are harrowing and yet still so relatable. And allowing his mom to write the final chapter was a beautiful touch.
A really fun and breezy read all around!
