The Improbability of Love by Hannah Rothschild
4.0

I liked this book in general - there was nothing I actually disliked and a few things that I loved (the few chapters written from the perspective from the painting were really great). This is probably one of the better books with quite a misleading title and cover - which seems to be the main reason I picked this book up to begin with - because both the title (until you realize its the name of the painting) and the cover both make it seem like a book that really wouldnt appeal to me.

This book is weird, and I would love to see this turned into an (indie) film where they can almost exploit that weirdness because this book was written in a very visual way (no wonder the author is a film director). I loved finding out more about the art world - how critics and scholars identify paintings and how they date those paintings. I must say I cant shake the feeling that I woukd have loved this books plot more had I personally actually experienced a break up - because more like anything this book feels quite a lot like a break up book.
