Jack of Fables, Vol. 6: The Big Book of War by Bill Willingham

1.0

No.

SpoilerI have to start with the very end. WTF Willingham? Either A) you are pulling stuff out of your arse or B) you are one sick dude. At the end of this volume, after hearing Jack go on and on about sleeping with the Page sisters, we discover that he is their half brother. Sorry, incest is not funny. Raven's "atta-boy" didn't help either.

If it weren't for my love of the original series I would have given up on Jack. It is a truly painful read, with a boring plot, repetitive jokes, and completely unlikable characters. Even Gary, who I once found endearing is getting on my last nerve.

Here is the outline for every Jack story: Troubles brewing, Jack sleeps with someone, trouble mounting, Jack talks about sleeping with someone, cue pointless Babe the Blue Ox aside. Jack decides he will fix said trouble, more talking about sex, Jack makes trouble worse, cue pointless Babe the Blue Oz aside. Talking about sex, Jack averts trouble, cue pointless Babe the Blue Ox, sex joke, sex joke, sex joke. See you next time.

It is boring and unfunny. This comic would stand half a chance of being something if the focus was completely on the literal and they ditched Jack altogether. Of course, that won't happen since they made him immortal and his name is in the title. Damn.
