The Getaway List by Emma Lord

lighthearted relaxing medium-paced

3.0

Another one from Emma Lord, which has her signature all over it, being that something good or bad, in your opinion.

With it I mean that the book includes:

-A slow burn romance, with no steam at all
-Some drama that involves the parent(s) of the main character, and the one(s) from secondary character(s)
- Descriptions of comfort food that sometimes sound repugnant
- Queer secondary characters, which is starting to feel odd in my opinion (why it's never the MC?)
- The inclusion of a café as the place of work of at least one character
- A cheesy and unrealistic epilogue

This is the 4th book by Emma Lord that I read... aaaaaaand I don't feel like reading more from her, I think. The first I read (Begin Again) was cute and interesting enough, so I liked it. The second one I read, I loved it (Tweet Cute). The third... I hated it, it bored me so much (You Have a Match). This one, well... It started very good, it was cute, the characters were likeable and well defined, and the plot seemed like it could go places. Towards the second half of the book, though, I started to get bored, very bored. My conclusion is: the book is too long for the plot it offers. In an attempt to justify the length of the book the characters take decisions that don't make much sense (
Tom leaving NY, mainly
), and while the way the book is narrated by the protagonist is intended to be emotional, it actually made me cringe.

But, if you were happy with all the Emma Lord books you read so far, meh, you will like this one. It's one more, just that.
