The Creeping
by Alexandra Sirowy
This book felt like it should have been labeled "college student" rather than teen. The book feels like it was written for the wrong audience. The characters are too young for what the book wanted to achieve. I do know that teens drink and cuss and have sex, but it was often made the inadvertent focal point of the story. This actually could have seriously improved the story if used on a psychological level like the book's catchphrase. It would have made for a great Aha! moment for Stella with Zoey or even Sam. That said, the story had a lush well-created burgeoning fear moving steadily forward until the big reveal. Honestly, by the time the monster was named, it felt like the story had been lost. Instead of being a joy to write it felt like it had become a task and that's why the story finally stopped. That's a very sad thought. I hope I'm wrong. Anyway, I think this story would do better as fiction versus teen fiction and with an age adjustment for most of the characters. Good use of spooky imagery. Foul language in its amount was not cool. Would have been tolerable without "slut" being on every page. Wouldn't recommend to a teen, but maybe an adult.
