I've had this book on my radar for a while and am finally getting around to read it. At first, I worried that it would follow too many of the tropes in YA fantasy romances, and I can't deny that it does exactly that. However, it wasn't long before I was adoring the characters and their struggles, and cheering them on as they fought for their lives and their kingdoms. At first I was skeptical of Em. She seemed a little too snarky for my liking. But as the story went on, I found her to be complex and more vulnerable than she was willing to admit (though that's not to say she isn't tough and can't hold her own in a fight). Cas is also a great character, and he reacted the way I expected him to (most of the time). The plot had awesome pacing, and things were starting to collapse for the characters around the middle of the book, which thankfully didn't drag anything out. That said, I'm wondering where things will go from here and am starting book two to find out!
