The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver

4.0

I loved One Day in December and I had high hopes for Josie Silver's second book. And it did not disappoint.

28 year old, Lydia Bird's life is turned upside down when her beloved husband, Freddie, is killed in a car accident. She has a hard time moving on from this. She isn't eating or sleeping until a doctor prescribes her a sleeping pill that magically transports her to a world where Freddie is still alive.

I know it sounds like a crazy premise but in Silver's deft hands it works beautifully. I will say that I kinda wanted Lydia to get her act together at different points and the ending was visible a mile off and yet I still didn't want to put this one down. The characters in the story are richly drawn and I wanted nothing but good things for all of them. I loved Lydia's family and her coworkers and felt that the world she lived in was one that I would have loved to inhabit.
