Long Island by Colm Tóibín
4.0

My friend told me that she'd listened to Brooklyn and I wanted to do the same, but it wasn't readily available in any of my services, so I chose this (being floored by the flu and in need of some quality stuff for my ears). I realize that it's a sequel, but after having listened to Long Island, I believe I'll have as much joy from listening to Brooklyn at a later time.

We're in Ireland in the 1960s and we're witnessing a love story going awry in slow motion. It is soooo painful! But exquisitely written. Actually, as the title indicates, the novel starts on Long Island where we meet one of the persons in this love story, an Irish woman married into a sprawling Italian family.
There's already plenty of drama on the home front in Long Island, but it pales in comparison to what's in wait for her back home in Ireland.

Excellently narrated by Jessie Buckley.
