People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

5.0

5 stars: I am in awe at this book.

I was incredibly skeptical about reading Emily Henry as I know a lot of popular authors have been built up to just be pretty awful. Even after reading Sally Roony, I was pretty let down by the high expectations I had set for her and specifically Normal People. However, this book took me completely by surprise, I was so sure I wouldn't like it simply because it was a romance, and I haven't really read many; I was expecting this to be a classic Colleen Hoover-esque read but boy was I wrong.

The writing is amazing, the way Henry describes people and relationships is so simple yet does so much for the book. The dynamics of each character felt so real and the preestablished relationships didn't feel forced at all. Everything was so engaging, and I would be anxious to pick it back up again after I had to set it down. So much so I read 100 pages in one sitting which Is quite a lot for me if I'm not already doing nothing.

Poppy was so relatable, and yes fairly clique, but she was written in a way that she almost acknowledged that, and her development throughout the story was so comforting and had a really good message.

There isn't much else I can say except I loved every second of it. It was so fun and so interesting, and I was consistently invested. I am so excited to read more of Emily Henry's work as I heard this isn't even one of her best books.
