difficult to give this a rating, since it's an anthology, but by and large i found myself... kind of disappointed? i wish more of these stories had gone bigger and grosser and weirder, or bigger and grosser and weirder in ways that weren't about sex crimes. i feel like it's pretty easy to go "hey wouldn't this be really fucked up", because yes, it would be really fucked up if any of this stuff happened - but i kinda need more? i need the body horror to mean something bigger. or, failing that, to go so big and gross and weird it doesn't matter. anyway.
most of these were fine, a few were crap, and a couple were absolute bangers; my favourites were alyssa wong's "natural skin" and tananarive due's "the lake", by a mile. definitely going to check out more stuff by those two, if nothing else.
