samanthayy 's review for:
Of Blood and Aether
by Harper Hawthorne
i think my main issue with this was the writing. there was SO MUCH telling instead of showing. i really don’t care or need to know exactly what each character is thinking in every moment and that really dragged this book out. and PLEASE let me figure out things on my own!! i can figure out why a character is feeling a certain emotion based on their actions actually it doesn’t need to be spoon fed to me in digestible bites ffs. i also HATEEEEE scenes where one main character hurts/betrays the other main character “because it’s for their own good and they need to be protected” LIKE THESE ARE GROWN ADULTS
anyways i digress this had a solid plot and a solid romance with lots of chemistry and build up and i loved the magic system! the reveal at the end was very obvious to me?? but i almost feel like it was written that way on purpose sooo let me stop hating on this book because i actually really enjoyed it and i’m excited for book 2!
