The Women
by Kristin Hannah
Unfortunately i found this book extremely boring. Many details dragged on too long and i felt like the things that the book preached about war, like how it makes people feel alienated, induces PTSD, and evokes disillusionment, were all so trite. I didnt feel like i learned anything new or gained any new perspective. I wasn’t emotionally moved either, as there was way too much telling rather than showing.
I do feel that the subject matter (female nurses in war) is an important and underrepresented topic, but i would rather read a nonfiction piece about actual women who served, as Frankie is not the type of hero i would root for. She came across whiny, overly naive, and self-victimizing, which is not a great way to portray women.
I had to force myself to finish it and at the end of the day i truly did not enjoy reading it.
