The Women by Kristin Hannah
3.0
The good: it made me think about and empathize with experiences of people and particularly women serving in Vietnam with specificity in a way I hadn’t before. Also, engaging. But: a bit facile and formulaic, emotionally manipulative in a fairly straightforward way. Also, very cis- het- white & in many ways not that believable (the main character’s family having no issue with her Black radical best friend? Come on.) But regardless it did change how I am thinking about war and the Vietnam war in particular and I appreciate it for that.
