Excellent YA book that can be enjoyed by all ages. Teenage Jade attends school on scholarship, a long and early bus ride away from her neighborhood and childhood friends, as one of the few black students. White teachers and philanthropists mean well but tend to condescend. Loved the tone and theme and message and spirit and characters and determination and and and of the book. Thumbs way up. Side note - this has been on my to read list for 4 years and I don’t even recall how / who recommended but I am so glad it was.
