The Executioner's Song
by Norman Mailer
There were aspects of this book I really enjoyed. The delving into the psyche of a (future) murderer, and the perspective it gives later in the story is pretty fascinating.
I really could have done without the in-depth looks at the legal aspects. Sure, they added to the overall telling of the story, but I felt that it dragged down the story a bit, too.
