Sally Jay Gorce is quite a bouncy woman. She is ravenous for life throughout the book, which makes her story a tale of beauty and unpleasantness. “The Dud Avocado” is the perfect read for anyone interested in a young woman moving to Paris with nothing but a dream filled with Parisian cliches that will eventually be broken down into pieces, and a heroine who’s virtues and vices perfectly coagulate to make a complex and wildly entertaining character.
