The Surviving Sky
by Kritika H. Rao
Overall this was an enjoyable read. The book delves deep into an exploration of consciousness and touches a lot on Hindu philosophy and mythology. While I really enjoyed some of the aspects of the world of the novel, the cultural references and the dystopian aspects of the novel, the pacing was a bit jarring (moving from sections that were fast paced and really fun to read to long philosophical discussions and explanations). Furthermore, it was often challenging for me as a reader to visualize the experiences of Iravan while he was trajecting. The descriptions of constellations and the Moment were confusing to me. The two main characters are complex and flawed in their own ways which makes them fun and sometimes frustrating to read about. I look forward to the next book in the series.
