I remember not loving Whose Body? when I first read it, and I still think it's a poor introduction to the series, though it may be the first chronologically. Even here at the start, though, Peter's character isn't all japes and piffle, and nor is the story: the crime is genuinely horrifying, and Peter struggles with his responsibility to other people set against his enjoyment of detecting, and with his lingering survivors' guilt and PTSD from his experiences during the war.

Reading it as someone who already knows and appreciates Peter, Bunter, Parker and the Dowager Duchess, I find it enjoyable -- though the (unintended, I think; I suspect Sayers thought herself progressive on the topic) antisemitism is more obvious to me than ever.
